On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Eunique from 8.-10. June Art Aurea will present masterpieces by 15 selected artists and designers in a special show – the Art Aurea Forum. The publishing house wants to make a contribution that top-quality works can again be seen in Karlsruhe and that a demanding international audience is addressed.
Excellent craftsmanship and artistic design works have been reassessed for several years. Contemporary art jewelry (aka “author jewelry”) has established itself as an independent art form. In the field of ceramics, the strongest impulses for a position equal to the fine arts came from the USA. At the recent documenta in Athens and Kassel, as well as at the Venice Biennale, more works than ever before were shown to have been attributed to the arts and crafts. In practice, this means that at the cutting-edge works, the boundaries to fine art are fluid. This is also reflected in the market development. At auctions five to six-figure prices are achieved for outstanding objects made of glass, ceramics, metal, wood and textiles.
The 15 exhibitors of the Art Aurea Forum are valued internationally for the quality of their works. Some see themselves as designers and present high-quality works that are produced in small series in own studios: These include Carl Dau, a pioneer of modern design jewelry, and the jewelry maker Annette Lechler from Karlsruhe, who recently received the price of the Zeughausmesse Berlin.
The textile designers are Kristiina Karinen (clothing), Katja Stelz (hand-woven rugs and blankets) and Lucia Schwalenberg (hand-woven table linen, stoles and scarves). A similar concept is pursued by Christoph R. Siebrasse, a pioneer of Neues Deutsches Design, his furniture is being built by the manufactory Weingarten in small editions.
In the field of art jewelry, the minimalistic pieces by Dominique Labordery and the expressive works of Mirjam Hiller are represented. An exciting contrast are the grandiose double-walled ceramic objects by Thomas Bohle and the porcelain works by Heide Nonnenmacher which are reminiscent of natural forms. Worth a visit are the fascinating glass objects by Barbara Nanning as well as the masterful silver and metal vessels of Laurenz Stockner, JaKyung Shin and Koichi Io. With his wooden sculptures Peter Vogel, too, clearly moves in the field of artistically demanding objects.
All friends of arts, crafts and design are invited. This time from the 8th to the 10th of June 2018. Individual works from different national and international workshops are presented. Readers of Art Aurea receive their day ticket from the Karlsruher Messe- und Kongress GmbH for the Eunique Fair at a preferential price of € 9.00 instead of € 15.00. And so it functions:
