Special show Masters of Modernism at IHM Crafts Fair

Masters of Modernism, a special show at the 2016 International Crafts Fair, presents pieces by 30 internationally famed artists from 12 countries. One focal point is studio glass: never before has so much of it been on display in southern Germany.

Livvy Fink from Great Britain, e.g. uses glass’s transparency to conjure the hidden world of microbes and cells. Other vitreous contributions come from Francine Delmotte, Hanneke Fokkelman, Alexa Lixfeld, Malvina Middleton, Massimo Micheluzzi, Amanda Simmons and Anna Torfs. The 13-part piece called Lucky for One by the London-based silversmith Juliette Bigley is impressive thanks to its minimalist austerity. The Danish ceramist Turi Heisselberg Pedersen built sketchlike vessel objects from four-cornered planes: rough surfaces covered with grainy pigments enhance the plasticity here. Ceramics are also on display: these include works by Thomas Bohle, Ane-Katrine von Bülow, Theodora Chorafas, Georg Hach, Kati Jünger, Bike Kästner, Torbjørn Kvasbø, Jong-Min Lee, Svein Narum, David Roberts and Catherine Vanier.
