Jewelry Design 2025

Authentic Creations at Inhorgenta Munich and from Leading Designers

Neither design nor jewelry design are protected terms. This means anyone can use and misuse them, which happens quite often. Nevertheless, a unique design culture in jewelry making has developed in the German-speaking world since the 1970s, with the Niessing manufactory taking a pioneering role in the beginning. In the 1980s and 1990s, numerous individual jewelry designers established themselves – some are still active today, and a few more joined in the 2000s. But where is the new generation?

Jewelry design, honest and serious, means small-batch production with excellent craftsmanship,  and sometimes even artistic standards in workshops and manufactories. Behind every piece of jewelry with a design claim lies an idea, an attitude, and often years of development. Jewelry design stands for simple beauty and durability – as our examples show.

At Germany’s most important jewelry fair, Inhorgenta Munich – with 870 exhibitors from 37 countries last year – discerning jewelry designers exhibit in Hall B2. Unfortunately, it is only a small group. Even some very renowned workshops are no longer represented at the trade fair. Therefore, it is even more important to appreciate the outstanding quality of those still represented and to contribute to preserving this culture in the jewelry landscape.
