Cologne Fine Art & Design 2021

Art, objects, precious items and design from ancient times to the present.

Approximately 60 galleries and dealers will be represented at the 51st Cologne Fine Art & Design from November 17 to 21, 2021 in Cologne. The spectrum ranges from ancient artifacts to antique and modern furniture and from ancient art to contemporary art and objects. There will also be two special shows – “Vienna 1900” and “Magical Figures of Teke” – as well as the newly conceived “Showroom,” which is curated by Sebastian Jacobi and features art and objects priced below 5,000 euros. This year’s fair coincides with Art Cologne, which presents around 150 galleries.

As the fair’s name suggests, design has played a larger role at Cologne Fine Art & Design since 2019. The exhibitors include dealers in mid-century design such as Martin Bohn + Partner with his gallery formformsuche (D), Guelfucci (D) and Zitzo Modern design (NL). Gisbert Pöppler (D) will present newly created design objects situated between Art Deco and Postmodernism. Vivid (NL) will show a collection of exceptional design sketches.

Also pleasing is the presence of contemporary artworks that have grown from artisanal traditions. Rosemarie Jäger (D) shows selected works of contemporary vessels and jewelry. Brutto Gusto (D) will display glass artworks by Ritsue Mishima and ceramic objects by Guido Geelen, Johannes Nagel, Guido Sengle and Wietske van Leeuwen. This Berlin-based gallery will also show textile artworks by Luzia Simons and paintings by Piotr Nathan. Galerie Andreas Binder (D) and Galerie Martina Kaiser (D) will show contemporary artworks that build a conceptual bridge to Art Cologne.

André Kirbach (D) skillfully combines Asian art, antiques and modern art. The art dealer Herwig Simons (BE) from Brussels similarly merges the boundaries of artistic movements and eras. Classic modern and post-war art will be presented by Dierking – Galerie am Paradeplatz (CH), Galerie Francaise (D), Gilden’s Art (GB), Kunsthandlung Osper (D) and Michael Schwarze Fine Art (A). Contemporary work will again be shown by Sakhile&Me (D), THK Gallery (SA) with African art, and Choi&Lager Gallery (D) with a mix of Korean and European artists.
