“form” at Lake Constance has successfully shown applied art and design each fall for the past 20 years. “We’re the leader in the region of southern Germany,” says furniture designer Axel Heizmann, who organizes the fair. He says that one reason for the ongoing success of “form” is its limited number of exhibitors (circa 30 individuals) and its high-quality selection. “This gives visitors a chance to become intensively involved with many of the works on display and to get to know the designers.” These creative individuals from Germany, Switzerland and Austria again present contemporary crafts and refreshing design this year. “Masterful craftsmanship and the striving for perfection characterize all exhibitors,” many of whom achieve a consummate symbiosis of useful object and art.
“form” presents a wide selection of outstanding crafts in Ludwighafen’s former customs house, which was built on the shore of Lake Constance in 1836. Ceramics, hand-woven textiles, masterfully crafted furniture, imaginative hats and fine goldsmithery are shown, as are leather bags and leather clothing, glass objects, and hand-wrought knives made from damascene steel. The visual and tactile delights are complemented by culinary specialties served in the former customs house at “form” beside Lake Constance.
