Illusion and Recollection

Art Jewelry by Julia Baudler & Ignasi Cavaller Triay

Blue Hope is the name of a blue diamond of 45.52 karat steeped in legend. Blue Hope is what Julia Baudler calls a necklace from her series Farbrausch (color rush). Instead of precious gems and crystals, what shines in these necklaces are pieces of color intensive silicon.

For her bachelor thesis the graduate of Trier University of Applied Sciences worked in three subject areas: perceptual psychology, color psychology and value theory. Her works are the result of various questions. For instance, what is an illusion, can it be measured and, if so, how?

As part of Munich Jewellery Week 2016 Julia Baudler exhibits together with her former fellow student Ignasi Cavaller Triay at Galerie tal20. In his master‘s thesis Cavaller Triay researched the relation to his own roots, his family and his country. He asks how people have employed art and crafts to represent their history. In doing so he hit upon the fascinating subject of the medal- lion, which can hold the deepest secrets of the heart in the form of a lock of hair, an image, a piece of text or even a bit of ash. Ignasi has eschewed the physical elements in his medallions, interpreting them in his very own way.
