Nominees for the state prizes are the textile artist Karin Bundschuh, the jewelry makers Iris Merkle and Sam Tho Duong, Damascene steel bladesmith Christof Jamin, and the ceramists Heide Nonnenmacher and Markus Klausmann. The three winners of the state prizes, who will each receive 5,000 euros in prize money, will be announced at the awards’ ceremony in Karlsruhe on May 25, where jewelry maker Nora Rochel will receive the supportive prize for next-generation craftsmanship. A total of 341 pieces by 120 participants from Baden-Württemberg were submitted to this year’s contest. A jury of experts chose 115 items from 61 craftspeople to display at the Statewide Exhibit. The contest and the exhibit are jointly organized every two years by Baden-Württemberg’s Ministry of Finances and the Commerce, the Bund der Kunsthandwerker Baden-Württemberg e.V. and a city in Baden-Württemberg.
