Asta Volkensfeld
Asta Volkensfeld makes beautifully shaped, functional vessels as well as emotionally touching works of art. Her focus is on creating ceramic objects using the build-up technique, which are refined in the smoke firing. In addition, she creates vases and bowls that are fired in the electric kiln at high temperature with her own ash glazes. Clearly structured geometric patterns are characteristic of this. The exciting contrast with the random smoke drawing opens a multi-layered dialogue. Origin, identity and mortality play a central role for the artist. The sense of clear structures and subtle nuances is also evident in the textile works. She dyes her wall hangings and framed textile works with natural pigments that pick up the natural colors of the ceramics. The central theme of all the works is the connection between nature, people and craftsmanship.
