Her ceramics are minimalistic and clear in their forms, subdued and restrained in their colors, simultaneously modern and timeless. Before Quyen Mac, a trained pianist, learned this craft autodidactically, she had studied music in various countries in the Americas. Making functional ceramics was a conscious decision to aesthetically enrich her everyday life and experiences. Each of her harmonious vessels, each bowl, plate or vase, is accordingly more than merely an object to contemplate. Serenity and intention result from repetition. And through repetition, dissonance vanishes, as it does in music. The entirety of Quyen Mac’s oeuvre radiates a harmony that we perceive as universally valid.
