Minsoo Lee
Minsoo Lee’s vessels captivate the beholder with their constructivist clarity and absolute perfection, down to the tiniest detail. It’s hard to believe that they are all created on the potter’s wheel. After throwing the porcelain body, this ceramist from South Korea applies multiple layers of porcelain slip, adding each new layer when the previous one is semidry. The white layers are composed of a matte glaze, and the blue ones – which are sprayed on – of a mixture of glaze and slip. After firing the vessels in the reduction kiln, he polishes all unglazed surfaces. Geometrical cuts in the vessels’ rims reveal the layered structure on the inside: utmost elegance in white and blue. The prices range from 1000 to 7000 euros. ART AUREA AWARD winner 2015
