The focus is on the ideas and developments of young applied arts designers. A total of 103 works will be showcased at the International Crafts Fair, created by designers from 30 nations and covering the entire gamut from auteur jewelry, artistically designed vessels and objects, textile art and one-of-a-kind furniture all the way through to large-format installations.

The main focus of those artists who use recycled materials is less on pragmatic application than on alienation, colors, and surface properties and their effects. What can also be observed is a re-appreciation of traditional techniques and superlative craftsmanship matched to modern-day requirements. Other themes include memory, nature and our natural environment, or the status of women in different societies and religious communities. This is evidenced by the young designers’ political and social awareness and commitment, writes Michaela Braesel, who organizes the exhibition under the aegis of Wolfgang Lösche of the Chamber of Crafts for Munich and Upper Bavaria. The wide variety of textiles and fashion designs fittingly complements the theme, i.e. “Textiles – Fabrics of the Future”, of the neighboring special “Exempla” show, which will be spotlighting fashion designs ranging from wearable to sculptural and even deconstructivist, as well as tapestries, textile sculptures, weavings and fabrics designs. The number of large work groupings and installations to be showcased this year is remarkable. The “Talents Awards” will be presented by an international jury on 16 March on the platform in Hall B1.
