Nikolay Sardamov counts among a group of Bulgarian artists who create modern art jewelry of exquisite quality. His latest collection is the result of his focusing on and experimenting with one single basic shape: the circle. Each of the collection’s brooches, pendants, rings and earrings is composed of an array of circles selected from a total of six different sizes. As the collection’s name Intersections indicates, these circles are interconnected so as to form different clusters and layers. Creating the shapes was like a game exploring different variations, Sardamov comments. By playfully combining the same number of components in various ways, for example, he produced a series of entirely different forms, each with a distinct size, density and pattern. To create his pieces, Sardamov first makes wax models of the individual clusters and then casts them in one piece in silver or gold.
