Sculptural, mostly monochrome bodies, related to crystals yet meticulously constructed: this is jewelry by Babette von Dohnanyi. Her Mirror Hero chain combines flat, smoothly polished forms made of synthetic polymer with slender bars of blackened silver to form shiny and irregular mirrors that create lively spaces. And her Rocks ring answers two questions: can a stone be reproduced in metal? And can it then come alive as a piece of jewelry? “Art needs no explanation,“ she says. With each new design she prefers to leave first imprresions to the observer, to leave space for their feelings and thoughts.
