27th Zeughausmesse in Berlin

Art, craftsmanship and design by young talents and well-known masters.

Around 80 exhibitors will be presenting their work at the Zeughausmesse from November 7 to 10, 2024 at KühlhausBerlin. Innovative ideas and developments by newcomers can be seen in the “Fresh Talents” and in the group exhibition of the University of Wismar.

For many years, the Berliner Zeughausmesse in the fall has been a highlight for lovers of applied arts far beyond Berlin. Almost all exhibitors have been working and experimenting with their material for many years. The spectrum ranges from gold, silver and metal to ceramics, glass and wood, leather and textiles. “The results often elicit amazement and admiration. Many visitors find their unique favorite piece here,” writes the organizer, the Berufsverband Angewandte Kunst Berlin-Brandenburg.

The exhibitors at this year’s Zeughausmesse come mainly from Germany, about half from Berlin and Brandenburg. International participants are coming from Denmark, the Netherlands and Austria. Here are a few examples: Leticia Domingues from Leipzig makes artistic wax molds, uses them to cast silver jewelry and then refines it. She also works with natural materials such as spruce needles and wood to form unique wearable works of art out of copper. She also experiments with ink on wood, electrochemical processes and shellac.

Judith Runge, Halle (Saale), creates impressive bowl-like objects out of colored clay, porcelain, engobes and glazes. She combines anthracite-colored porcelain with thermally deformed plastic parts that she finds. Each of her works is unique and can also be used as a wall object.

Felix Votteler, Tübingen, works conceptually and sculpturally with wood from trees that have to be felled for health or structural reasons. He processes fresh and still wet wood, which changes the originally symmetrical shapes as it dries. He deliberately highlights imperfections and knots in his objects.

The “Fresh Talents” format developed by the Zeughausmesse is represented at the fair for the second time. Seven young artisans and designers who have been working professionally for a maximum of five years are exhibiting in 2024.

The design department of the University of Wismar is showing designs with a focus on jewelry and product design. The topics include an artistic-aesthetic material analysis of dust, the relationship between kitsch, jewelry and female role models in pieces of jewelry and objects, and the exploration and use of the phenomenon of dreaming in the development of pieces of jewelry.
