Jewelry by Nicole Schuster is based on personal perceptions and on the richness of seemingly simple and straightforward forms. Her creations clearly allude to natural crystals and to their growth and transformation but this designer and artist is also inspired by observations of her urban surroundings. Traditional goldsmith’s techniques are augmented by virtual design technology. “I’m interested in the interplay between nature and culture, the absence or even the appropriation of the one or the other and ultimately a symbiosis of them all,” the artist explains. The individual shapes form patterns of relationship and they communicate like living organisms. As wearable sculptures, these pieces describe mystic places, dream worlds or abstract landscapes.
