Form and function are convincingly coupled in Nina Schäfer’s creations. On the basis of a few fundamental shapes, she creates mutable pieces of jewelry that fulfill individual needs. The intelligence of her designs and the refinement embodied in their fabrication soon earned this academically trained designer numerous prizes, including the red dot design award for her Rattlechain in 2012. Modern techniques wed to dexterous sensitivity enliven the pieces in the Quadrat² series: reflected light makes the little squares appear in pale and dark nuances that are both geometrically austere and sensually appealing. The Kib-it line of jewelry enables its wearer to decide how many of the set stones she wants to wear and how she wants to arrange them. The innovative technique for the settings makes skilful use of the stainless steel’s inherent hardness.
