“A hat only really fits you when you forget you are wearing it”, says Heike Thamm. Her one-off models and mini-series are made of classic materials such as fur felt, different types of straw, as well as textile fabrics. The independent artist, who is also a qualified men’s bespoke tailor and a milliner, reinterprets traditional processing techniques. However her sometimes extravagant headgear and handbags must always be fit for purpose too. “The design pursues the principle of originality on the one hand and practicability on the other”, she says. The items she designs and produces skilfully unite both aspects. Prices range from 110 to 2000 euros.
