Les rencontres du Fourneau began with a symposium in 2009, where artists of various backgrounds and origins as Eija Mustonen, Sophie Hanagarth, Geraldine Millo, Christophe Maguire, Marie Prunier, Marie Masson and Laurence Verdier have worked together for a week around their own projects in the countryside of the “little“ Brittany in France. This initiative takes form this year as a workshop with Monika Brugger, artist coach.
In the future, these two events – symposia and les ateliers, the first biennial, for the second annual – will be organized in the form of a stay of one week devoted to technical, thematic and symbolic research arround the jewellery and around the qustions of body ornament through the most diverse contemporain artistical expressions.
This year les ateliers focus on personal research of each participant.
The starting points for the week will be the work, research and/or jewelry of each participant and will aim to strengthen the personal reading of his own work.
During the workshops, and whatever forms of expression that you will choose – traditional materials or techniques, photography, embroidery, book … – we will always talk about the jewellery this “little handmade and precious object“. We manufacture it and we can refer and detach us as well, to better reflect it. We talk to give symbolic and intellectual meaning as a social factor and artistic discipline with their materiality and built forms.
The research procedures will allow the development of different approaches and new perspectives facing his own practice and outside his bearings usual.
The week will be punctuated by quickly thematic projects, lectures on the jewel, exchanges on topics proposed by participants or Monika Brugger.
