The shapes featured in the 0039 and Oval necklaces created by Susanna Kuschek are geometric and simple, i.e. circles and ovals. A slightly offset alignment turns what seems to be simple into something complex, not easy to comprehend, a disrupted order. The organic, haptic quality of the surfaces intensifies the liveliness of these pieces. This characteristic organic surface structure is the result of the Ossa Sepia casting technique. In Kuschek’s Croquis necklace, the order of the beads’ alignment is disrupted by asymmetric loops. Thus, the dreaded knot in a necklace is elevated into the rank of calligraphic option. Susanna Kuschek loves coincidences that are not random.
